BuyingGroupPro vs a buying group spreadsheet
Updated View as Markdown
Most buying group resellers start with a spreadsheet: one row per order, with the cost, the tracking number, the buying group and the payout. BuyingGroupPro does the same job, but it adds the orders, sends the tracking numbers and checks the payouts for you.
Short answer
- Keep the spreadsheet if you place a few orders a month with one buying group and you like your own formulas.
- Move to BuyingGroupPro when typing orders, copying tracking numbers into each group's website and checking every payout takes too much of your time. The Free plan costs nothing, and your spreadsheet comes in with a CSV file.
Side by side
| BuyingGroupPro | A spreadsheet | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free plan; Pro $29/month | Free |
| Adding orders | From your inbox, the Chrome extension, a CSV file or by hand | You type each order |
| Tracking numbers | Sent to the buying group from BuyingGroupPro, one at a time, in bulk, or automatically on Pro | You copy each one into the group's website |
| Payments | Orders are marked paid when the group reports a payment, and a wrong amount is flagged (Pro) | You check each payout by hand |
| Profit | On every order, from the cost, payout, cashback and gift card savings; reports by month, group, card and store on Pro | Your own formulas |
| Deals | Live deal feed from the buying groups on every plan | None |
| Alerts | In-app and push alerts for payout problems and wrong amounts, and deal alerts by push, email or Discord (Pro) | None |
| On your phone | iPhone and Android apps | The Google Sheets or Excel app |
| Your own columns | Set fields, notes and saved views; CSV export on Pro | Any column, any formula |
What a spreadsheet does well
- It is free and has no limits.
- You choose every column and every formula.
- It works for any store and any buying group.
- It is easy to share.
What a spreadsheet costs you
- You type every order from every retailer email.
- You copy every tracking number into each buying group's website.
- A short or missing payment is easy to miss.
- Nothing tells you when a deal opens or a payout fails.
- Spreadsheets damage long tracking numbers, for example by turning them into 1.23E+15.
Move your spreadsheet into BuyingGroupPro
- Download the sheet as a CSV file. In Google Sheets: File › Download › Comma-separated values. In Excel: File › Save As › CSV.
- Import the file in BuyingGroupPro. It reads your own column names, such as "Order #" or "Tracking", and shows every row before it saves anything.
- Fix the rows it flags, such as a possible duplicate or a damaged tracking number, then commit the import.
- Connect your inbox and your buying groups so new orders come in on their own.
CSV import is free on every plan, up to 1,500 rows in one file. See CSV import.
Questions
Is there a free alternative to a buying group spreadsheet?
Yes. The BuyingGroupPro Free plan costs nothing and has no time limit. It imports orders from one inbox, the Chrome extension or a CSV file, connects up to 2 buying groups, sends tracking for 10 orders a month and shows the live deal feed.
Can I import my Google Sheets or Excel orders?
Yes. Download the sheet as a CSV file and import it. BuyingGroupPro matches common column names, creates any store, buying group, account or card it does not know yet, and updates an order instead of adding it twice when you upload the same file again.
Can I get my data back out as a spreadsheet?
Yes. Pro and Concierge members can export their orders as a CSV file and open it in Google Sheets or Excel.
Does BuyingGroupPro work with my buying group?
It connects to 12 buying groups: BFMR, BuyingGroup.com, Deal & Runner, USA Buying Group, BuyersForPoints, Buy Get Rewards, CloseOut NJ, Earn From Buying, MaxOut Deals, Points 4 Days, Points CashBack and UEarnPoints. You can add any other group by name. BuyingGroupPro then tracks its orders, profit and payouts, but cannot send tracking to it.
